Advice (?) for the new year

Start living now. Stop saving the good china for that special occasion. Stop withholding your love until that special person materializes. Every day you are alive is a special occasion. Every minute, every breath, is a gift from God.
     - Mary Manin Morrissey

----

Why do we save the 'good' stuff for some fuzzy future when right now is pretty important. Without right now, there can be no future.

Curiosity killed the cat with nine lives, that must've been one very curious cat.

No, it was just a cat that couldn't count.  A wise cat picks its questions carefully, and stops after seven or eight.

Quotes aren't about wisdom, they're about what people need to here.

Actually, they're what people want to believe. No two people will interprete the same quote in the same way because every quote is taken out of context. A quote like, "patience is the cornerstone of success," may have been in a paragraph about flower arranging or dental surgery but when people hear it, they will apply it to whatever aspect of life they personally think it should apply to.  Everyone needs to feel as if they understand the world they live in, especially when they feel out of their depth.

"We must declare point-blank that nobody can make head or tail of anyting in this world. Only fools and charletans know all and understand all." - Anton Chekhov in a letter to a friend
"I was born of writing. Before that, there was only a play of mirrors." - Jean Paul Sartre

We can debate the point of quotes for as long as we can but the thread doesn't question it. It demands quotes themselves.

Rejection is part of a writerís life. Anyone who wants to make it as a writer needs to learn to face rejection bravely, gracefully, and frequently.

Intelligence is only optional if one possesses the luxury of choosing to use the intelligence they so possess. Some people do not have that luxury. They are doomed to stupidity unless they are capable of seeking knowledge and choose to do so.

All of us are capable of stupidity, some of us are better at it than others but not everyone possesses intelligence.

My current signature quote for my email is this:

From my close observation of writers...they fall into two groups: 1) those who bleed copiously and visibly at any bad review, and 2) those who bleed copiously and secretly at any bad review.
