CHALLENGE 35 (FICTION)
"It's that tune again."
A flexible theme this time, although all themes are flexible to a writer with imagination;-)
Your challenge - if you chose to accept it - is to write a story somewhere around 1000 words with the theme of "It's that tune again."
It can be about a tune/song which inspires, irritates, infuriates, or in some way strongly influences the behaviour of your central character(s).
Just to get the ideas flowing... Maybe a seemingly peaceful little old lady or gent who gets inspired by 'The Ride of the Valkyries' and steps out to take on an annoying neighbour, or a stroppy council official. Or a quiet reflective tale of someone who looks back over their life whilst listening to the older Marianne Faithful, or similar surviving 'Wild Child'. Or a silly old fool - of either gender - who gets carried away whilst listening to the music of their youth with either good, disastrous, or hilarious results.
Pick your tune first, or your character, stick them together, and see what happens when they meet. Then drop them into an appropriate - or perhaps creatively inappropriate - setting. Stir gently and then write about whatever bubbles to the top ;-)
It is perfectly reasonable that, although written as fiction, some of these stories could be semi-biographical.
So stir those ingredients and get writing.
The deadline is Midnight GMT, 12 November. The same as the non-fiction challenge, so if you decide to tackle both you'll get a taste of writing under pressure ;-)
PM your entries to me, and seeing as some of the usual challengers are tied up writing novels for NaNoWriMo, how about a few new people having a go? See it as a chance to lose your writing/submission virginity in the best possible company ;-)
