Time to send in submissions.
« on: September 18, 2007, 09:52:55 AM »
Hi,
I am plucking up the courage to send my manuscript in for submission. I wondered if there is a good time of year to do it. Should I wait until after christmas, or doesn't it matter?

Also, I am torn between sending it to an agent or straight to a publisher. Does anyone have any experience in this. Which option do you think is best.
Thanks.

Jo, let me first say CONGRATULATIONS on getting your manuscript finished - that is a great achievement all on its own - so take a bow. ;)

As for when to send your manuscript out... I'd just send it, don't wait. Give it a last kiss and push it out the door (then get on with writing the next one)

Now, publisher verses agent... hmmmm. Personally, I'd go with a publisher first (but that could just be me - cut out the middle man).

Have a look in the Writers and Artists Year Book for publishers that deal with your genre - try them first and see what kind of feedback you get. If that doesn't work then maybe an agent is the way to go. BUT YOU WON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY!

Good luck, whatever you decide. I'll have my fingers, eyes, legs... ::) crossed for you.

Yay! Congratulations! What a moment!

Don't wait. I'd advise against sending mms in August - and probably 24th December, but otherwise, send, send, send.

Have you got your query letter up and ready?

Fingers crossed, best of luck.

Thanks guys. I have the first draft of my query done, although I will probably tinker with it a bit more. Keep everything crossed.

We all have to suffer for our art. Only joking! How about I keep everything crossed and you relax?

No way! I'll keep them crossed - just let me know when it's safe to uncross. ;)

I recommend you take a look at http://QueryTracker.net, it's not only a comprehensive list of agents but it also contains tools for helping you track queries and statistical data about each agent.
This is the website I created for helping authors find agents and track queries, and I humbly offer it for free.  http://QueryTracker.net

Query Tracker is a cool website I checked it out.
The 3D screen savers are cool as well.
Thanks for suggesting

Yes I've also signed up with query tacker. Its easy to use. You can search agents by genre and track all your submissions. It also has space for anyone to write notes for each agent, in case they have a bad experience.
