I guess some of us were never meant to be pack animals, too much individuality in our make up, I'm tempted to start heading for the hills now. Rumor has it that after a certain age or stage in life you become an "adult" and leave nannies behind you (reference to the "nanny state" we are fast becoming part of). ;D

When Gordon Brown comes round to my house, makes me spotted dick, reads me a story, tucks me up in bed and gives me a goodnight kiss, I will reject the nanny state and join the old blokes in the hills.

By the way, are we taking any “babes” with us?  ;)

Citabria,

Forget the goodnight kiss, the tucking in and the good night story but I've now got an urge for spotted dick! It'll have to wait until the weekend though (reduced manning of the surveillance personnel on a weekend).

Gordon Brown's spotted dick...?

Well, Tony promised everyone a steak (or something similar) and then hid himself away in case 56 million people decided to plunge it into his heart at the same time.  Then he finally got 'browned off' and left office.  So perhaps the spotted dick is going to be Gordon's equivalent to Marie Antoinette's "Then let them eat cake.".

Whatever, 'Gordon Brown's spotted dick is a potential nightmare for headline writers.  After all, does it mean...

a)  Gordon has jumped on the Celebrity Chef bandwagon and started selling puddings with his dour visage on the tin?  "A return to solid presbyterian values, stodge for the people."

b)  Is it just a spiked label the staff use in the parliamentarian canteen to ensure that no matter what else may run short there is always a spotted dick for Gordon, just as there used to be a large spike to hold Tony's personal steak?

c)  Or perhaps Gordon peeped out of the window at No 10 and saw a flasher outside?

d)  Is it perhaps the name of a favourite jazz tune, in which case it has nothing at all to do with dicks, spots, or anything much at all?

d)  Or has the Poor Wee Mannie caught some unfortunate 'bedroom disease' on top of all the other problems which welcomed him into office?

Spotted dick? Sorry, but in America, we really don't have that cuisine...could someone explain to me exactly what goes into Spotted Dick in terms of food?

And citiabria? the sentence: Now i've got an urge for some spotted dick raises questions in my mind...but then again, that's my american gutter mind at work. Sorry!

Mats

Try not to get over excited. It makes you eyes go wonky and you get the posts mixed up. :o

It is Dwin that has the urge. ;) All I wanted was a bedtime story and a goodnight kiss from our Prime Minister. :-*

Uhrrr, I wish I hadn’t said that now.

'Nuff said.

That leaves the curvaceous landscapes; the glorious ups and downs; the ridges and the valleys; the wonderful beauties of nature all to be enjoyed and appreciated  by  us more mature folk. There's many a cuckoo in the woods at night when you get up in the hills.

We have a saying in England, “Better a cuckoo in the woods than a hand in the bush." Or something like that. ???

There will always be people who slip through the net in any system, and I've trained to be one of them.

Gyppo

Oops ... those who slip through don't normally tell everyone about it first. do they?

I have a strong feeling that this was made up by ------------Mark? 8) but I like it.
You are so like that other Mark-Anthony who came out with great one liners such as,
I asked him where Hadrian's wall was and he said "Round Hadrian's garden' :-*

I'm sorry citabria. My mistake. And DWin, i turn my previous statement to you....Even though after you gave me the recipe, i can't help that urge myself....

Anyway. Now that my eyes are de-wonkified, what's going on?

Cleo

Yes you are correct; it was just a play on words on the old Shropshire saying, “A toad in the hole is worth two in the bush.” And trust me that really is true. ;)
