Authors' Resource Centre / Writer Manuscript Security
« on: June 13, 2018, 03:17:59 AM »
Can anyone tell me, is it normal, when opening a word file of my own manuscript, to be told by a popup"This file is being used by another person, would you like to open a 'read only'  copy? and having an option to return later, or to get a message telling me when my script is free?
Is it a hacker? I am a bit paranoid about this, and uncertain what to do?
sincerely needing help, Asilalenore7

All the Write Questions / Re: I'm looking for the motivation.
« on: June 07, 2018, 10:51:40 PM »
Looking for motivation? Pick up your pen and write a whole page 9or2 or 3) of absolute junk. Then, make a drink, and settle yourself, something will jell and a few words will pop into your mind. KEEP at it for a few pages at least, and see what happens. Do not worry about errors etc.
 go for it!Asilalenore7

I find fiction is sooo much easier to write, as it just flows out of my brain. When I write non-fiction, I have to do hours of research, check it is all oK for me to use, then write to those whose information I have gathered, to ask permission to use it etc
Dates and times become more important, there is pressure to complete it, and so on. Asilalenore7

All the Write Questions / Re: Lost files in scrivener
« on: June 07, 2018, 10:42:26 PM »
I really wish I knew the answer. I have questions about scrivener also, and have ended up paying over $100 for the whole kaboodle, but am a bit wary about using it and want to chat with anyone who has been able to conquer it. I really wish to use the program.
Since that day, which was when telstra had a big breakdown, some of the stuff of my computer vanished also.
It has been behaving, but files still gone and paragraphs here and there vanished also.
NOT from Scrivener, just from my PC. Asilalenore 7

Me too! At least I remembered my secret question so I could make a new password. I feel so guilty at not keeping in touch, and hope I can be forgiven.
I have attended a few physical writing groups, but found they mostly just listen to guests, chatting about how to make $$ from writing.
I wish to discuss things and discover things about my writing and your writing, hahaha So glad I found the sheet of paper in the bottom of the box that has been in storage for ages :)

hi, my name is Asilalenore7, and i am starved for conversation about writing. For the past few years I have been in a very demanding marriage and food business, and am now still working in the food business, with very long hours, but am at long last able to (hopefully) find time to have a bit of a chat to people who speak writers language :)  I know no one who has read, for instance Joseph Conrad. or any other older writers.
There was a passage in Conrad's Heart of Darkness where his character deplores the cutting down and exploitation of the forests of Africa. Where he states that great damage will follow on from the destruction of the forests.
hope there are a few oldies like me out there. I can't wait to meet you all. Asilalenore7[]
