All the Write Questions / Reasonable Price for Developmental Editing
« on: July 14, 2018, 06:57:23 PM »
Ever since 2015, I have been publishing my books via self-publishing. For my latest book, however, I decided to try and go for a more traditional route in publishing. This is my first time of seeking a professional editor. Up until this point, I have relied on beta readers for my editing. I am look for developmental editing for my upcoming book, Steel Prison. As it stands for the moment, the book has 48,827 words and 109 pages long. I am wishing that it could be longer and maybe make the plot more fluid. This book has been edited several times over the years, the latest one being this month while on vacation. I am looking for one last edit before sending it off to the publishers.

What is the average price that I should aim for a developmental editor?

II: Leda

I'm so tired of flesh and blood.
My lord has grown so vile.
He keeps me in my golden cage.
My wings are held by chains.
The darkness blocks out everything from me.
His rats are invading my head.
His rats are invading my head.
His rats are invading my head!

I cannot sleep;
I burn in fire.
Früher habe ich meinem Herrn, lieben. (1.)
Seine seele ist jetzt tot. (2.)
Ich werde zerreißen ihm das Herz. (3.)
Und vernichten seine Seele. (4)
Er tötete mich zuerst5.
The rats and time have rotted
My brain.

I can't remember much about my past.
Only bits and pieces come to my mind now.
I believe that I was born in Ireland
to a farmer girl and a German soldier.
The only thing I remember is my
Ability to hear the thoughts of the city.
Even the thoughts of despair can't keep me together.
These chains suffocate my wings.

I can barely stand.
I used to sing,
But I keep quiet around my lord.
I will not give him the satisfaction.
The smell of cigarette smoke from his clothes
makes feel sick.

The only thing I have left is the
hope of escape and killing my vile lord.

1.) Translation: I used to love my Lord

2.) Translation: His soul is dead now

3.) Translation: I will rip out his heart

4.) Translation: And crush his soul

5.) Translation: He killed me first

This is from Wasteland Project (It contains, Hetalia, Durarara, and D.Gray-Man):

I: Sliver Ice

She dances around her caged pole
night after night.
Hungry eyes focus on her as
Ice trails her body.
She entices them within the glitter and
brightly colored lights.
Their new Madonna is born.
However, the randy fire around her can't wake her.
Her soul is dead on the inside.

The vice-filled underbelly of Ikebukuro
Is her glittered cage
She calls home.
Everything is provided for her.
Her main master pays her education
And everything he feels that a doll
Could ever need.
Yet, this will never be enough for her.
She doesn't feel;
Eyes as dead as winter.

Out of the dolls in the underbelly,
She is the most desired out of them all.
She'll expose you.
Sing to me!
Nothing to say.
He reaches out to grab her, but
She isn't moved by his affections or
Attempts to awaken the humanity within her.

The pole dance is a tease
For those who can't get upstairs.
There this soulless goddess
is auctioned off to be
A one-night wife for the highest bidder.
Her opinion doesn't matter.
She just takes it without a single
Thought of her own desires.

To her, love is a game to
Sell for one night.
She will love them like a fly
And never love them again.
Countless men use and abuse her
As they please for the night.
She is their toy for that purpose alone.
The only rule:
One cannot leave marks on the body
for future husbands.

Yet, one young man has fallen for her and
Wants to set her free from this paradise prison
She is trapped inside.
He desires to show her what true love
And emotions are.
Older gentlemen do not want this.
They want their toy and will do
Anything to keep her in her cage.
They have even called in a black-coated
Information broker to help see to that.
In a way,

She is just like my Hyacinth Girl.
Both of them take the abuse and harm
Without any regard to themselves.
They don't even see their own beauty.
Both women closed off from love.
Love is like a sin to them that they
Cannot comprehend alone.
Such soulless beauty is
As dangerous as a child with a gun.
They have no idea what damage
It would do to the men that desire
Around them.

Yet, the young man and I
Refuse to give up until
They are freed from their
Soulless icy cages.

Despite how vain the efforts look,
Something in each of us refuses to
Let us give up until love
Wakes them up again.
But, how can even hope
To achieve this when they
Won't even try to fix themselves?

Tell me, is it better to surprise the reader and the characters or let the reader in on the twist, but surprise the characters?

I started listening to a podcast called "JapanesePod101." I have been learning Japanese for three years. (One at a community college and two at a university.) I have been slacking off since I graduated. I figured I would get back on the horse.  I am going to sign up on the site.

What languages are you learning?

The Writers Circle / Bisexual Characters
« on: April 16, 2015, 01:21:35 PM »
I had an interesting thought. I came to notice that majority of main characters are either straight or gay. We rarely see any bisexual characters. Do any of you have bisexual characters in your works and how many are the main character?

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

Underground Blocked writer Michael Spiegel dwells within New Orleans' seediest corners, wallowing in vice. He doesn't sleep and he consumes alcohol like mother's milk. He feels that he is falling deeper into the cesspool of human vice.

Beth Monroe, known as Kitty, is a spoiled model who enjoys wild nights and drinking. She hates being controlled like a toy with a pretty face. Beth wants to be her own woman.

Joy O’Conner, known as Duck, is a hard-partying dancer. She can outdrink Michael to the point that it worries him. She has no plans to slow down. Despite her crudeness, Joy has her own strange charms.

Violet Thompson, known as Raccoon, is a shy prostitute. Childhood trauma pushed her down the path that she now travels on. She too longs to be free, but is too meek to even take the first step.

Amy Porter, known as Venus, is a troubled singer. She has the talent to go far, but her personal problems keep pulling her down into the decadent waste land of New Orleans vice. Amy has no way to guide herself back to the light.

Who has made one and is it effective?

Self-Publishing Central / Self-Publishing to Traditional
« on: January 16, 2015, 01:54:09 PM »
I feel this will be a dumb question, but I have to ask: Can you traditionally publish what you already self-published?

My novella, Distorted Lullaby is now available on Amazon Kindle. Go check it:

Summary: No one in the small town of Patterson would have foreseen the death of the violent town drunk, Trevor Grey, on Halloween night. When police arrive to investigate his murder, they find his wife, Maureen, sitting far away from Trevor's body. Obviously, she is the prime suspect in her abusive husband's murder. The only problem is, she doesn't remember the events before the police found her. Rookie detective, Gina Torres, takes it upon herself to unlock Maureen's memories and solve the case. Driven by family pride and tragedy, Gina turned to psychology as a way to help people. She feels that only she can help Maureen silence the "distorted lullaby" in her head and help her stand as a person again.

Plus, I have a new cover and I edited the story.
