That must be one hell of a gym. Mine is 96 a year.
Wow, that's cheap. Can you enrol me in?

Happy Santa's birthday!

Wife and I have bought each other our gym /pool memberships for Christmas for the last 25 years. It started when we paid 600 for son's school ski trip. We never refused to pay for such things but realised that the cost of his one week in Austria = a year each for us at the gym. Of course we still get smaller stocking-filler gifts too.

I only drink Martinis when on holiday, especially in the Med. It just feels wrong now to drink it at other times and places. My fault. I shouldn't fall into bad habits.

Popped into the gym / pool after a long cycle ride today. Accidentally knocked over a beaker of water into my cycling shoe. Sock was in the shoe. Oh how I laughed. Took ages to use paper towels and a hair dryer to dry them out. Nice and warm :)

Good cycling weather in UK today. By which I mean overcast so the low sun doesn't blind everyone and temperatures above freezing with low windspeeds. So I'm ready to go and say to Mrs N, what do you want me to buy?

She says: A toilet seat.

Visions of me riding with my head through the toilet seat.

It must be the changing electrostatic properties in my fingertips but Kindles don't work for me anymore. Blooming nuisance cos my book groups keep shortlisting newish books that are expensive in paper. Then I found the kindle app on my laptop works perfectly... except I cant write my own stuff at the same time. Anyhow, I read an interesting engineering scifi novel set on another planet in the future. Drill bits meet love and betrayal - yep, written by a woman, but its good. I blogged it here https://geoffnelder.com/craters-edge-lucy-andrews/

When in the west country ordering cider, it's not watering down you worry about, it's the pink lumps fizzing near the bottom.
Gulp.

The four main characters in my SF WIP are ganging up on me.

I'm with you SC on facebook. Several of my former friends and neighbours still have their fb pages 'live' even though their corporeal entities left the planet years ago. It's both weird but also nostalgic at the same time. In one case, Neil Marr who was my mentor and who employed me in his publishing business, has a commemorative fb group set up by family, so that's okay.

Thing is: when that big bus one day takes my out under its wheels, how will folk know? Will my online pals just think I'm rude for not participating in posts? Mrs N doesn't know, nor wants to know, passwords for my social media nor email. Issues, issues - that only crop up when you get to my age...

So annoying that NASA has found an Earth-like planet in the Kepler system. I have one in the science fiction novel I am writing. Now people will think I copied NASA instead of it being the other way round. How dare they!

Is it the beginning of the end? In the night I'd left a hot water tap running accidentally.
In the morning - icy outside and a cold shower to start the day. Mrs N not happy with me. She's looking through dementia home brochures for me.

Luckily, when I stayed in Greece in September, I learned the trick on very hot days of storing the heat in memory for when it became cold back here in Britain.
