Title: writer's block
Post by: MarcusB on August 26, 2015, 09:45:07 AM
wherefrom comes this silence

whose voice has gone from the mist
  no matter how i turn
    or incline my head
      not one resounds

surely they have not finished
their words have brought me to this place
    i am scarcely begun writing
see how the blood still drips
from the quill of my pen
there is story yet to unfold

yet silent they are
  and i shiver
as if a chill has joined me
equally quiet it speaks of death
  and finality
    though i have hardly begun

whereto my muses
why do you bait me so
you demand, no, you command
and i write to your pleasure
you have always been here
clanging and echoing through my mind
but now - now i find myself alone

looking across the void
to focus on that which lies before me
    i shudder
whether from cold
or the truth before my eyes
    i know not

blast it to the heavens
  where have you gone
why do you forsake
at a time i need you most

still naught but muted space

is there no one to answer
  none to tell me

wherefrom comes this silence

Your muse(s) are probably still talking to you, but you can't hear them because you're going on at great length about them not talking to you ;-)

Seriously, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy if you worry about it too much.

Sometimes the muse takes a break, goes out to buy fish and chips, or have a quiet drink somewhere with the other muses who are also taking a break.

If you're real writer they'll come back, that's a promise, and they'll probably feel much better for the break.

Also, they get a bit pissed off with authors who are too clingy, who rely on them too much instead of digging into their own subconscious and stirring things up a bit for themselves.

But they rarely really leave you.

Ask your muse a question before you fall asleep, and they may well answer you in a dream.

That would be my trick in a hat box.  Over-talk it to the point of believing it to the point of making it come true :)

... so if they don't go away - - do they play Hide 'n Seek?

Spot on.
