When you've buried that small coffin,
you just get on with it.
When there's no road left ahead,
you just get on with it.
When it hurts to look at life
you just get on with it.
When your marriage falls apart
you just get on with it.
When everything seems impossible,
you just get on with it.
When there's nothing else to do
you just get on with it.
Then, when things start getting better,
you still have to get on with it.

Effective writing. I liked the stoicism expressed by the repeat and the way the echo -- although supposedly a reprieve -- sounds resigned as if it's worse when times are good yet contains the ambiguity of interpretation as if accompanied by a sigh . ;)

I like this. It has a melancholy feel, yet it's so true.
-
Forgot to say -- you just get on with it also carries a wonderful ambiguity too. ;) Could be glib and flippant 'do it' or barely managing.
-
love it :)

I like it Gyppo... so many things pushed my buttons in there ... and expressed in a manner I can totally relate to - one of my Dad's (RIP) favourite expressions "just get on with it son"
Thanks!

It may not be the only answer, but it works.

The last two lines will probably mean different things to different people.
To me it's the situation where you feel profoundly crap and just want to curl up in a ball, from all the sort of stuff in the earlier lines. And then things start picking up around you, but picking yourself up with it feels like an impossible effort. But somehow you do.

Hi Gyppo
Don't think you will remember me, but I used to hang out around these parts some time ago.
It's uncanny that I should come across this on my first visit back here because I have been recently bereaved and know only too well that the sentiments expressed in what you have written, are in fact the only choices we have.
I am hoping today that by coming back here, I have today 'started to get on with it'
