Thanks for sharing - though feel slightly unworthy of entering.

The prize may not be a mistake but the date in the subject line deserves a little scrutiny.

For a few delightful seconds I had this vision of some ancient scribe,  from 1024, surrounded by shelves full of carefully rolled scrolls, looking in complete bewilderment at a growing pile of thumbdrives -  delivered by camel post, or by runners bearing them aloft in a cleft stick - and being totally bewildered by the endless stream of subject lines appearing on a totally anomalous I-pad.

I looked all over the site but found no mention of entry fee. Is it free to enter?

It would seem so. There is no mention of any fee on the application form.

While the title of the website mentions the winnings in €,  within all the following text, only $ is used.

As there is not a 1 to 1 exchange rate between these currencies, the actual winnings could be a disappointment to someone hoping for €.

As it is run by a European outfit I suspect it is Euros -- sometimes the symbol converts to $ when copying and pasting.

No entry fee as far as I can ascertain.

I have my doubts about that, Sio. The only place a Euro symbol is used is in the headline of the Writing.ie article - otherwise they use the dollar sign throughout, and so does the Spanish site. It is an international contest, after all.

But if you don't have a Euro sign on your keyboard -- some folks use $ rather than insert a symbol . . . or maybe they can't and it's a issue with character set conversion. :-X

Well 20K Euros is not the same as 20K dollars.

They put dollars on the site.

20,000 Dollars is equal to approx £12.400 GBP

and I think in Euros its approx E15,504

I could be wrong but it's as near as dammit as they say.  Still worth having though.

Dont forget there are key words you must use (I think) within the text.  I recently judged a competition and had to disqualify four entries because they didn't put in the key words as part of the rules of the contest.

 ;)

As a matter of interest I took a look at the Spanish language version of the rules at http://www.museodelapalabra.com/es/concurso-de-microrrelatos/4-edicion/formulario-de-participacion. On this it clearly states that the prize is in dollars:

Quote
Se establece un premio absoluto de 20.000 dólares para el mejor relato en cualquiera de las lenguas autorizadas en el certamen.

So not quite as valuable as 20,000 euro. As Lin says, still worth having, though!

Thanks for doing the research, Nick -- like you say, still good value . . . even in dollars. ;)
