Title: Daryl [midnight candle] - Winner of Poetry #97 -- summer holidays
Post by: 510bhan on July 03, 2014, 07:59:47 AM
POETRY #97

We’re in July, summer for those in the northern hemisphere and ‘holidays’. ::)

At home, abroad, past/present/future, a busman’s holiday, how to avoid/entertain kids, the expense, enjoyment, excitement, romance even . . . please write a poem loosely based on ‘summer holidays’. No more than 40 lines and PM entries to me by midnight [BST] Friday 11th of July (when all the bonfires will be lighting the skies in NI).

Happy writing and have fun.

Gotta be in it to win it . . . Daryl [midnight candle] did! Well done, mate. ;)

:) And here is his winning poem. :)

Under lilac sky light,
hand in hand
we strolled with sandaled feet
on sun-scorched earth

between lifeless vines
earlier hanging heavy
with ripe grapes.

Let the pickers pick,
bend and break their backs
in unnatural acts

and later,
lying under the sequined sky
with glasses of Chablis

we’ll reap
the fruits
of their harvest.

Oh dear, I've just discovered that there was another entry . . . but as it had no mention of the contest in the subject line, it skipped by me.
