Title: MWC Poetry Anthology Released
Post by: 510bhan on March 31, 2014, 03:18:41 PM
As announced on the anthology thread . . . it's been released!

Whay haaay! ;D

Yippee!

Fireworks! Corks popping. Tablets taken to prevent the shakes now that it is finally done.

Thank you everyone who contributed but special mention to our own members who did stuff above and beyond the call of duty despite several annoying glitches, hold-up and gremlins.

ME cos I did loads. Tom cos he did loads too and Heidi who came in a saved the day for the epublication. It tried to beat us but we won in the end. ;D

I just had to paste this in from the other thread to make the thread complete:

As the Kettle Wolf-Whistled has now joined the ranks of published works with those of Shakespeare, Rumi, Tennyson, and Nick Daws.  A brilliant anthology of the poetry of MWC –

eclectic, imaginative, sometimes stunning –  these poetic works track a wide variety of subjects, styles, points of view. Whatever your bent may be - humour, drama, tragedy, sharp and witty observations, meditations, these and more await you.

The paperback version is available online through all of the major retailers at the suggested retail price of $19.50, but may be ordered through Lulu.com, our printer, for the discounted price of $9.75

The ebook version is available for $2.99.  Currently available only in PDF format, we anticipate offering the ebook version in epub format in the fullness of time.

Credits for the cover photography to MWC's own Brianh!!  Congrats Bri, these are some excellent photos.  The interesting thing of course is the great photo by Brian on the cover is of . . . . drumroll, please. . . . Brian himself!!

Bri, if you don't mind, how did you get such picture?

Tom, he was on his way to bed as usual.

All should note that HUGE kudos in respect of the anthology are due to Tom and Sio who put in an immense amount of work to make this a reality.

Ha ha. Thanks Tom.

I did a delivery run to RAF Valley in North Wales. On the way back I was snapping away with my camera till it got too dark. While in Road-works near Conwy, I was at the temporary traffic lights and I saw myself in the windscreen and thought 'hello?' So I just snapped it. It was that easy.
The back pic? I had to wait for that one. This was near the now defunct RAF Cottesmore. Again I saw the pic in my head and waited for the light to become 'just right' and then snapped it, (and a few more).

I'm so pleased to see my pics here. It means the world to me. Thanks for the honour. Bri.

Came back to add. I appreciate Shvon (510bhan) for all the help and support she gives everyone on mwc. Not just poets. It's why we all love her. (but with a little 'L.')  :)

The honor's to the anthology for being able to draw on such talents as the photographer as well as the poets.

So, bri, you were wearing pants in the picture? ::)

It's such a cool little pocket size -- will fit right in your jeans or your jacket pocket. It'll slip into a handbag/purse easily. Read it in a coffee bar, on a train, in the pub, while you're waiting for a meal to be served!

The glossy cover looks really well.

Title: Re: MWC Poetry Anthology Released
Post by: 510bhan on April 01, 2014, 11:01:35 AM
I think it's put on other platforms by Lulu but is much pricier. Not sure about 'Kindle' per se but work is going on to have an e.pub done and where that goes and how it works is beyond me. :-[ Lots of learning taking place -- luckily it's all virtual communication so we can't throw things at each other. ;D Tom and Heidi must be short a tuft or two with hair-pulling, I'm sure. :D

Okay -- so we've got the book out. Now the marketing. :P

Any ideas? ???

Could we organise a 'virtual book launch' maybe through Twitter or something? Say in two weeks' time? I don't know what I'm talking about just thinking out loud. Maybe organise an hour that suits folk and chat about the collection to raise awareness? Again -- clueless don't know how that would work.

Post your suggestions an ideas, maybe someone will have a cracker we could exploit.

Could have a virtual 'signing session' -- a tweet with the sentiment you'd scribble for a personal message. Get a good conversation going.

I'm not on Facebook so I have no idea how something there might work.

Those of you who have blogs -- would you like to interview a few contributors, maybe ask them about the inspiration for a particular poem you've admired/appreciated?

A few other suggestions.

Maybe ask your local library if you can put up a little poster for a while.  Some libraries can be a bit stuffy if you want to advertise a course or service 'for profit', but most are reasonable enough about charities.

If you're a parent with kids at a senior school ask if you can put something up on the school noticeboard, or in the school newsletter if they have one.

If you're one of the contributors drop a line to the editor of your local paper, introduce yourself, tell him what the charity is, and they may give you a short mention and publish all the necessary links.  'Local Poet published in charity e-book.'  Offer to send him/her a PDFcopy - or just send one anyway with your letter - so they can see what it's about.  This would probably more effective than trying to explain it all in your own words.

For anyone who gets their local paper interested, always remember to follow it up with a thankyou note a few weeks after, especially if it works well.  The editor will appreciate this, and be happy to tell readers how his/her paper helped to make a difference.  This will probably trigger a few more sales to those who 'thought about it the first time but forgot the link'.
