Welcome to My Writers Circle, Merewords9801,

Positive feedback and constructive criticism is what we do here, so it appears you have come to the right place. Feel free to poke around and make some new friends. As you're wandering the dusty halls and corridors, be careful not to trip over any of our members who may be napping there. These are the same folks you'll be looking to get constructive criticism from.

In your travels, don't forget to check out our forum etiquette here:
http://www.mywriterscircle.com/index.php?topic=7415.0

Also, take a look at the stickies at the top of each board. They will give you an idea of what gets posted where.

You will notice that we have two boards for posting your work. The first is the Review board.  This is where you would post any segment of work you need specific help with. Read the critiquing guidelines and don't be bashful about offering any of your own advice you think may be helpful. This will give you an idea of what to expect when you post your own work.

The other board for posting is The Gallery. This is primarily for finished pieces you would like to share with other members. Give that a look as well. Poetry gets its own section and plenty of action.

Moderators are the guys and girls with the blue stars. We'll be happy to answer any questions you have, and so will any of our members. Just ask. Enjoy.

Wow Thanks guys!
Maimi - I really like writing fiction. The larger projects (that I hope to be novels) are usually fantasy or adventure. I try to avoid the cliche "Lord-of-the-Rings" type settings in those and make up new and creative places, worlds, civilizations, etc. It's so entertaining!
I also write some shorter, non-fiction stories based on my experiences. (Though sometimes it's hard to differentiate if it is fiction or non-fiction).
Thank  you so much! I have to get used to constructive criticism! I always take it so personally because I love my writing and my characters! Haha :)

don86usa - Thank you!!! I'm excited to be here! As I said to Maimi, I have to get used to constructive criticism if I plan to be an author! :)

Welcome aboard. Who are your favourite authors?

Hmmm...
I really enjoy Ted Dekker. He's probably my favorite at the moment.
And of course, I'm a Harry Potter fan. :)
But I also like classics from the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen.
I also enjoy Libba Bray, Frank Peretti, Tolkien...
So much more!
I'm always up for book suggestions, though. Who are some of your favorites?

I'm a big fan of Frank Herbert (In fact I acquired his last two Dune novels yesterday), Fritz Leiber, Jack Vance, Neal Stephenson, M Johnn Harrison, Michael Moorcock... etc etc.
What are you currently reading?

Welcome to the forum.

Thatollie: If I remember correctly, Dune was the first novel I ever read. Loved it. Frank Herbert = Legend.

Perhaps it was the first worthwhile novel you ever read.

Most likely.

Sorry for highjacking your thread Merewords. We're a real talkative bunch.
Perhaps it's from all the hours we spend writing in isolation.  :)

You don't write in isolation, you're more a part of the world than ever before.

Mmm, never thought of it like that. Very true. No wonder I don't feel lonely anymore after
I started writing.  :D

Haha goodness!
I'll have to check out some of those authors.
Right now I'm reading Red by Ted Dekker.
AMAZING.
I've never had the skill of finding good books, but once I do, I'm all over it.
haha :)
And I understand what you mean about the writing thing, for sure!!!

You mentioned Tolkien, and I feel that no-one can really get a true handle on the depths of fantasy without reading Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser stories. Or Robert E Howard, or Dunsany.

Or if you'd prefer, I know some great modern fantasy.

Or Science Fiction... Classic and contemporary...

or horror, again classic or contemporary...

or high-faultin' literature... some of it's really awesome.

I read a lot, and recommend a lot too.

Oh yes, I read all of that!
Suggest away :)

Have you read A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin? It's a gritty historical fantasy with more realism than the Tolkien clones that flood the market. I've heard good things about Patrick Rothfuss, so I bought his first novel "The Name of The Wind" on wednesday. Steven Erikson is top quality, but I'm sure you already knew that. It'd probably be better if I knew who you know.

I've heard of all of those, but I haven't read them!
Again, I've never been good at FINDING books so I probably haven't read most of what you have!
