Title: crocodiles - up close and persona
Post by: yeggy on February 27, 2010, 05:33:36 PM
Fire-fly and I have been having a discussion over on my newbie thread about Crocosauras Cove in Darwin where  you can dive with the salties - that's the nasty people eater variety of Top End crocodiles.

I'd forgotten my 'experience' with salties:

Even safer than being in a cage we were in a photographer’s studio in front of a grey screen.

My directions - 'Imagine an eagle is about to land on your shoulder.'

When the bill board came out it was up close and personal with a croc. What I love about this shot is Martin's grin. It's like he knows exactly what's happening and is saying to himself - 'My wife's about to get eaten by a crocodile - woo hoo!'  ;D ;D

Fortunately, for his long term happiness and survival with all parts intact, that shot was also superimposed.  ::) ::)

I imagine if Martin had actually been there and seen the croc, he'd be gone, leaving behind only you and his Cheshire Cat-like grin for the beastie to feast on.   ;D ;D

 8) 8) (Cliche alert) Hit the nail on the head there.

Local Top End mythology says always take you dog down to the river or the sea. If a croc comes for you, chuck the dog at it and run.  :o Bit hard if you like your dog.  ::)

Cool!  My new boss is an ex crocodile rancher.

We're doing some work with crocs, but a different type

Hey, LA, sadly I don't work there, don't  even live in Darwin anymore. I'm hoping to go back in May for the writers festival, though.

Wow, sounds like a great job, Carrie.

R U in Cambodia?

The croc on the site you posted looks a lot like an Australian Freshwater Croc - smaller and not lethal.

I'm in Cambridge, UK, but one day... who knows!

Our beloved leader, Karlos, wrote all about it. :-)
