Title: The Big Drunk
Post by: eric on December 28, 2009, 06:29:21 PM
What one thing do we know about poets, historically?  I mean, other than that they wrote poetry?  What one thing did they have in common?  That's right, they were all drunken louts (except for Emily Dickinson maybe).  So to celebrate the New Year poetry style, I suggest we all get smashed.

I persuaded Bones from the MWC bar to help us out here, just show up in a post, ask him for whatever you want, and he'll give it.   Yes, John, you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant ... and at Bones's bar.

I hoped to make friends with my pens
Instead as I typed
It all became hyped
And I drove off in my rusted old Benz.

The new year was coming up fast
The old year would finally pass
To the old and the new
This tired old shrew
Said, "Get off my lawn you young guttersnipes and don't come back here until you grow up and get some freaking manners, but it wasn't really 'freaking' but something else.

I always "fancy" a dance. Not that good at it. But I love to.

I'm still kinda swayin' from the Janis song.

And, I'm always on double duty listening with one ear to whatever Hubby seems to be blathering at the moment. ::)

He's one of these types that doesn't give a hoot about what anyone else when he has something to do, but when he comes home from work he feels like everyone should give a hott about him....Go figure. Maybe that is why I'm an ass????

It's either time for dinner, or time for bed, or time to go to work, or time to do this or time to do that ... always ... We are in 24 different time zones, so it is always a busy time here for some people. They come and go as the time in their area dictates. So, as I'm getting up in the morning, FF is getting ready for bed ... stuff like that.

This can only be classed as a true New Year's function of someone photocopies her arse and pins it (the copy not her arse) on the noticeboard. Also, perhaps some kind of embarrassing sexual liaison would be in order. And while we wait ... I have put 144 cans of Magners Irish cider in the larder.

Post by: emma112 on December 29, 2009, 01:32:59 PM
Well, I don't know much about it, except that I like how it tastes. :D

It's a lovely, red Martini cocktail. Has a light, soft taste to it which is why I like it so much. I'm not too keen on the strong stuff. And you usually drink it in a romantic atmosphere, that's why it's red.

even a Fogarty sampler.

mine's good enough but yours's better.
as usual, in an argyl sweater.

nor will i hide in the wind
or go dipsy dumpster diving for some binned

cans of leftover tuna turning brown around the fringes
for lunch by a dowager, homeless and down on her whinges

stuck in the woods by a robin's hoods,
done slick in a mackinaw back
playing hacky-sack in your woods
with god's clock, tick tocking over the universe
what's worse, it wasn't first, there were other clocks surf
ing around the boot-heel pull-ups in the craven weeds
at the truckstop wide spot station brothel gas and house

of Madame Toussard's wax machine ...
for assignation peregrination and the nation's bean

but that's not here nor there just now
let's go across the mountain
let's let the ship have its prow
let's find a local fountain
and get soused

Back for another evening. Although I have asked Bones to please keep me in check.  ;)

I don't write poetry, but I do enjoy reading it. It is very philosophical.

The Onion poem this morning. I have compared my life to being my choice of either the layers of an onion or the layers of a pearl. We all experience life and have "layers" of maturity that create who we are every day. We can be either an onion that makes people cry or a pearl that makes people smile.

Daryl,

D, it is fantastic how you understood the onoin story. I thank you. care for some peppersoup? it our speciality and the palmwine is eco- friendly as there are no additives nor preservatives. It is more potent the next day so best have your fill now.

Greetings Biola,

I will accept your offer of peppersoup and palmwine!

The onion and the pearl metaphor have been trailing me for about 4 years now. I was excited when I read your poem. I may not know exactly how you feel or what your meant, but I do know that it had meaning for me.

Biola,

Nothing makes me forget the onion sting, eh. All I can do is try to live with it and deal with it. Sometimes I'm an onion. Sometimes I'm a pearl. I don't know if the decision is mine or the person to whom I am engaging.

Not exactly sure what palmwine is, but if it takes away the sting, I'll be happy to try it.  :)

Drink JD and coke instead. Very fruity.

Title: Re: Drunken End-of-Year Carouse
Post by: eric on December 31, 2009, 05:23:33 PM
no it doesn't depend on who drinks it, isa.  coke and JD use a whole lot more energy to produce, leave waste materials, and eat up a lot more natural resources (mainly sugar).  and palm trees are renewable in this case, as b. says

You guys (and ladies, if offended by 'guys', it's an American Southern term) get an early start on New Years. Or, should I say we, since I've joined this august body? Anyway, sorry I missed the dance. Rum was my drink of choice, and the horizontal bop the dance I choose with my bride (of twenty years).
