Title: What do you need right now?
Post by: CoreyBlake on November 20, 2008, 03:30:31 PM
Hey writers,

I'd like to better get to know the people on here, so I'm curious about what people are looking for right now in terms of their writing. New agent, great editor, a writing group, a web designer, help with their pitch, help with their queries, help with writer's block, etc.

I'll start by saying that I'm in need of more time in the day to write.   Because I write multiple books simultaneously, I need to generate between 10 and 15 new pages a day (between manuscript writing, proposal writing, queries and marketing materials).  I'm probably averaging half that even putting in an average of 11 hours a day. I'm getting bogged down with communication, conference calls and sales. All good things because they revolve around my writing, but I need to be more intentional about putting the writing first.

I'd love to hear what everyone else needs.
Best,
Corey

I need my to get rid of this dreadful cold first.

Once that's taken care of, I need more discipline and organization.

I need to get more organised and I need to finish a few niggling pieces to clear the way for other stuff.
Basically, I need to get serious.

I too need more time in the day. Not only for my writing but for ordinary life. The days seem short and I end up sitting up till 3am trying to organise my thoughts and work into a logical order. I tend to have ideas sweep through my mind, normally at the worst time, and if I don't write them down it's a sure thing I will never remember them.

Corey, thanks for starting this topic.  We all need something.  :)

For me it's:
1) More time in the day - I'm a full time student, work part time, and I'm getting married in 9 months.  I'm lucky if I get even an hour a day to work on writing.
2) A sounding board - Not necessarily an editor just yet, especially since I'm not even sure if I want to be published at this point, but I need somewhere to discuss ideas.  I hate to burden my loved ones by talking about my novel all the time.

I'm with you, Ma.  Longer days are the obvious solution.  However, since we can't change the planet's orbit, a practical methodology must be found.

My personal proposal would be to add 12 hours each to Saturday and Sunday and do away with Mondy altogether, since that seems to be the least popular day.  All in favor, raise your hand.  :)

Ma, if I was up till 3am I wouldnt have a logical thought!  :D but I agree wholeheartedly that there isnt enough time in the day - I try to get up earlier instead I think better in the morning but that's me

Don's onto something with his abolish Monday plan, but the powers that be (Sun and Moon) won't let you add the extra to the other days.

Back when i was a wage slave I once managed to get myself a job where I worked for sixteen hours a day for three days, thus clocking up a quite profitable 48 hour week, thus allowing a four day weekend.  In reality Thursday became a wind-down day, a transition between manic and laid-back, but three days to go fishing, work on bikes etc, was a pretty good deal.

What I did learn was that 'work expands to fill the time available'.  If you are ruthless with yourself about finishing what has to be done in a set time then it will fit. [1]  It may take a few weeks to get to grips with this.  You may annoy a few friends/family who work more normal hours.  But the old saying about work hard and play hard does work, provided you keep them separate.  (It is much easier when you're an 'eighteen and indestructible' adrenaline junkie, but it can be done.)

Once you start taking work home, or using your weekends to 'catch up' you're on the downward spiral.

We writers tend to get 'good ideas' at awkward times and I'll cheerfully admit to working most days, often for far longer than I would work for anyone else.  As writers our bodies and minds are quite often not synchronised with each other ;-(

But sometimes, just sometimes, I'll turn off the computer, poke my camera and some sarnies into a bag, and just run away for the day.(The kids and family can still get me on my mobile phone in an emergency, but not many other people know that number.)  A complete shut down can be just the thing you need on occasion.  These outings can be planned, in the form of a 'reward', but - for me at least - the completely spontaneous ones seem the most beneficial.

If you can see a gap looming in your busy schedule don't think of it as as extra time and back off on the throttle.  Instead, see if you can speed up a bit here and there and thus make the gap even longer.

Since my 'ill health retirement' I've had to live with days when I truly can't do much, when I have to just 'go with the flow' and take it easy.   Good days to catch up on reading if i don't fall asleep ;-(  A hard lesson to learn, but the other side of the coin is to make the most of the really good days when I feel as if I could not only push over mountains with one hand tied behind my back but will actively go looking for the said mountains.)

[1]  Check out the 'short term deadlines' page on my website for an exercise to show yourself that more can be done in less time.   www.thewritetuition.co.uk

PS:  If you really can't find any slack in your time then you're really trying to do too much.  Cut something, as long as it's not your wrists or throat.

Not to the seaside like me uh Gyppo :)

See when I was young it would be up and out the door to work by 7.30am. Slap and hair was done on the top deck of the bus. Breakfast grabbed at the nearest wimpy, then into work by 9.am. Home by 6.00pm straight into bath avoiding face so I could touch up the mornings make-up with a bit more polyfilla.
Down stairs by 6.15 pm, curlers sprayed with lacquer for the evening hairstyle. Dinner never touched the sides and with clean undies and a new outfit I was out the door for dancing practice by 6.45pm. By 8.00pm I would be on the bus to a venue to watch a gig and would think nothing of going home on the first underground train in the morning with friends. I lived in London then.

Now if I could squash all that in then. Who nicked the hours in the day as I got older? :) ???

1)  Sometimes the sea calls.

2)  He owes me a few hours too.  If I knew who I'd hunt the bugger down and kill him slowly and painfully.  All in the guise of research of course ;-)  "Nothing personal, Old Chap.  Just research for a novel."

I need to get over my fear. I have no idea if I'm afraid of failure, or possibly afraid of success. If I actually get what I want, then my writing will be a job. Right now, my writing is fun. My writing is for me and a few people who see what I spew out.

BUT, if I got what I think I might want, then it would become a grind. Something else I have to do.
Although, in reality, there is nothing else I have to do.

PS to the young and overtaxed. I used to listen to my mother complain about having too much time on her hands. She was looking for something to do. I thought she was nuts. Too all those looking for more time. Be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

Patti,

If you get a regular paid outlet for your history essays - especially if syndicated across a whole range of newspapers/magazines then yes, it will become a job.  It can be a bit daunting the first few times when you realise a hobby/pleasure has become a job.

But presumably you will still be researching new stuff as well and writing that up too.  So you will still be doing what you have loved doing for the last three years or so.  The joy of hunting down lesser known facts and making them fit your self imposed limit won't change.  Your apprenticeship with RGQ will stand you in good stead.  The only real difference will be you are getting paid for stuff you would willingly do for nothing anyway.  Reaping a harvest for what you did erlier.

Non-fiction writers are the hunter-gatherers of writing.  They wander through life seeking out stuff which is already there and bring it home to share with others.   It's a good honest trade.

Novelists are more like farmers.  They plant seeds, nurture them, and hope for a bumper crop.  Sometimes it works, sometimes the result is more like the California Dustbowl.  Especially - extending the dustbowl metaphor - if they try to get too much out of one plot ;-)

It can be a bit daunting the first few times when you realise a hobby/pleasure has become a job.

You bet!
(Even though I'm not Patti.  ;) )

Until recently I never earned a cent with my writing, and I wrote just for pleasure. For me.
Then I got discovered. Gulp! Not in my preferred genre. Not even in fiction, but as a technical writer. Web Development.

I'll tell you guys a secret: I know zilch about web development. Well, next to nothing, and all I know is self-taught. So, I do some web design, and muck around a bit with Blogger templates (just created a new one yesterday) but it's really not all that super.

Anyways... I'm writing articles now. On web development and home education (that's more my niche, thank goodness!). I get them published and get paid for them.

And if all goes according to plan, I'll have my first book out early next year.

It's nice, and it's frightening.
Some days I feel on top of the world, and other days I just want to stay in bed and hide under the blankets. What if...

Oh man! I've been on disability for all of my adult life, and now that I'm finally earning some money, I'm scared silly. I want to be able to make a living from my writing (not nearly there yet), but what if things go wrong? What if I loose my allowance and then find out that I'm unable to produce enough stuff people will actually want to pay me for?

So... on top of getting more organised, I'll also need courage. A lot of that!
Title: Re: What do you need right now?

Nelodra,

I would glandly lend you some courage, but it seems I'm fresh out of the commodity myself.  >:(

I can send you best wishes and revel in your delight on those good days. I'm proud of you. I can't believe the amount of courage it took to get this far. I bet you aren't really low on the product, you just tucked it away somewhere and forgot where.

That doesn't sound right. "Hey, you're stupid, not scared!"
But the concept holds true. You ARE brave, have been brave, and I wish you every continued success.

Am I too late to say I could use a back rub and some grant writing experience?

I also (still) need to polish the final draft of my "baby" and rewrite that cover letter. Then I'll have no excuse to delay sending it out there to be scrutinized and, well, I procrastinate because I fear.... what? What exactly do I fear? That my big dreams, great ideas, charm, and energy, may not pan out or pay off the way I want them too? Silly.

No. I think I could use a swift kick in the pants. Then, I'll take the back rub.

Consider yourself firmly kicked with a size ten...

Now, let's start with that tight spot just under the shoulder blades, both together with a deep releasing thumb pressure, and then use all the fingers to ease that pair of matching steel bars running from your neck down into your shoulders. PING!  Bloody hell, I can feel the tension letting go there.

Now let's get the thumbs working either side of the spine, with that clever alternate pressure from side to side which tricks all those little locked vertebrae into letting go, one little click at a time.

Ooh, you poor thing, you sound like a pair of castanets.  Back to the nape of the neck and start again.  You'll soon feel better.  No point in just rubbing when the underlying structure is locked nearly solid.  That's why the higher primates have opposable thumbs, to undo the knots.

I need to exorcise the demon which currently seems to have taken over my computer.  Various checks suggest it isn't a virus, or spyware, etc, therefore it must be a demon.

I'm a little reluctant to drive a stake through the motherboard, but it may well happen before the day is out ;-(

I've lost my outgoing e-mail, but incoming is just fine.  My accelerator programme had died, but I may dump that anyway once the annual fee runs out.  It was more useful when I only had a 28K modem.

The fact that I am able to send this message - so far - without any problems, without getting unwanted pop-up windows offering to connect me to my email, or fraud protection, or offering to save it for me,or summoning Google, suggests the demon is watching and knows I'm after it.

So if I vanish for a while it's down to computer problems.  Which are normally quite rare or very short-lived, but just lately have been increasingly annoying.

It's probably just time for the annual thorough clean up, both physical and electronic.

"Look out demon, Gyppo's On The Warpath ;-)

Sure. No problem. ...when I'm sleeping;)

By the way, you sound just like my chiropractor whom I see two or three times a year. He too, does acupressure on my knots as he comments on my tense muscles and "angry shoulders" and repeatedly tells me to relax. He even charges me for the opportunity to crack my bones and grind knots into my scapula and deltoids.

Bossy lot you healers are. ;)

I wouldn't want it any other way. I like a person with backbone who knows how to fix one. I feel three inches taller now that my spine is straightened!

I'll be archiving this massage for future use. Thanks again Gyppo. ;D 8)

People who are motivated all the time are scary, and tend to burn out early.  Like the infamous candle burning at both ends.

People need downtime too, when they can play daft on-line games with like-minded individuals.  Often some useful information, or a different angle on life, comes over as part of the game.

When this happpens, Life Is Good.  Not necessarily instantly productive, but still good.

the concept of 'time allotted' is for fairground-fairies.

- time is you, right up to the eyeballs. if you think not you're still talking in the passive tense and it doesn't take a healthy dose of MWC to know that passive=bad.

 - patience (it's nothing to do with me)

 - money. this is a difficult one. my e-book 'learn to shoplift in 2 hours' is available online.

I need the confidence to choose the best pov and genre. First person, third person limited? Omniscient would make the plot too confusing... Would the story work best as fiction(alized autobiography) or actual autobiography?

As I write, I find that I can't simply explore a plot because every action is brought about by a complicated web of previous events. I need to learn to focus without oversimplifying. Sigh.

Right now I need very little.  There are many things I'd like,  a handful of  things I strongly desire, but very few I truly need.

Now, if we were compiling a list of things I need to do...  That would be a somewhat longer list ;-)

Hi Corey!

It sounds to me as if you need quality time rather than more time. I don't know where you live, so I don't know if escaping outdoors is practical or not at this time of year.

So, I will just offer this advice anyway. When I want to do some serious writing, I go outside - preferably to someplace scenic. When I lived in Calgary, in the warm months, I would take off to the Rockies for a few hours. My surroundings stirred the creative juices in me and I would get a lot done. In the winter there was a multi-level place right in downtown Calgary called the Devonian Gardens (if I remember the name correctly after all these years). It is a great place of plants, trees, ponds, fish, running water and at times even birds could be found who had found their way inside.

I have always found these sorts of places extremely conducive to getting a lot of work done in but a few hours - and I have always enjoyed that time tremendously. Perhaps it is something you could try. Back then, there were no laptops, but I could write up to 30 pages in 3 to 4 hours. Surely, there would be similar places that you could go to?

Hope this helps,
Nightwind

I need to stop switching to "dreamy mode" whenever something tweaks my imagination.

What I need right now is a holiday somewhere with trees and fields but what I'll settle for is some sleep.
it's okay to be in your own world for a awhile when I write that's where my focus is on that world I've created the chracters in them.

Step 1: Cold weather, boiling tomato or pumpkin soup, freshly-baked French baguette...

Step 2: The cold weather, still... a comfy bed, pillows (lots of them!), and a bulky yet airy blanket...

Would be nice if the dreams contribute to the stories being written too...

Hope you'll get your sleep soon!

I need a new wall for my garage.

I'd like a complete new garage, brick built with locking windows, heating for the winter and a/c for the summer, with built in power points instead of a running leadand four way extension socket.  Plus good lighting.  Plus a decent stereo system which I could then customise with oily fingerprints.

But I'll settle for a new wall before it gets too late and the whole thing collapses in a slithering slide of asbestos panels.

I've just realised the poor old things over forty years old.  No wonder its creaking and suffering.

I keep thinking that I need a job, then I realize I wouldn't have as much time to write, then the common sense demon sitting on my shoulder bops me over the head and reminds me that a job brings in some much needed money.  I keep telling that little common sense bugger that I have something almost ready to go out to publishers but then he reads me the stats on the odds of getting my book published and tell me I need to figure out what I want to go back to college for.  So I guess I need a new common sense demon since I'm pretty sure I killed mine.

With my writing, it's almost like I work in split shifts...in the AM's after dropping kids off, and kinda sorta if you want to call it working after I pick up the kids (interrupted by refereeing, food, emergencies, not listening, temper tantrums, etc...) then after the family goes to bed...so I'm up really late at night. :(

Another of my non-alcoholic beers.  But they're about six feet away from my chair and I don't want to move right now.  I've tried the Jedi mind trick but the bottle didn't float over to my hand.  I guess - like Jabba the Hutt - some things just aren't susceptible.

So, I cheated.  I swivelled around and reached for it with one of those extending claw things which hangs on the shelves so I can turn the stereo off and on without having to move.  But the bottle fell over so I'm going to have to wait for the fizz to die down a bit before opening it with my Serbian Army 'Baby Killer's Regiment' bottle opener.

The Jedi trick would have been a damned sight easier if I'd managed to pull it off.

Actually, we can.
If you hold it for long enough, the urine will flow back from your bladder into your kidneys.
It's called reflux and very bad for your health.

They used to warn about it at festivals, Leah.  Blokes would just whip it out  and pee anywhere, but the more timid lasses would hang on , and hang on, and end up in hospital.  I have to say modern young hippy lasses seem far less inhibited about whipping their long skirt up over their back and adopting the pretzel/turtle position prior to irrigating the ground.  I nearly tripped over a couple like that at the Summer Solstice, out in the shadows away from the security lights ;-)

A time machine.  So I can go back half an hour and undo a moment of carelessness.  In a moment of absent-mindeness/spupidity I drank a glass of bright green limeade about half an hour ago, and now have the makings of a splitting 'additive' headache.  A real nail in the head moment.

I should know better.  I do know better.  But about ten minutes after drinking it I felt my scalp starting to crawl and belatedly looked at the label on the bottle.  The green also included one of the yellow food dyes which are evil to me.

I drank a glass of milk, which may tame it a little, and now I'm going to lie down and hopefully gp to sleep for a while whilst the various chemicals fight it out in my head.   It already feels as if my brain is starting to rock inside my skull.  Sleeping may not be too difficult as I was up late last night.

I still feel as if I'm wearing an invisible and slightly tight hat, but the 'wobble inside the skull' has gone so I think the worst is over.  Prompt diagnosis and the antidote - milk - definitely helps.  The nail in the head is gone.  I'm going to have a nice milky coffee in a minute to finish off the treatment.

I don't often make the mistake these days but feel a right idiot when I do.  You can be sure I'll be reading labels extra carefully again for a while.

I often wonder just how many of the screaming little monsters we see in supermarkets are suffering from the same problem.  The SCTDs (Synthetic Coal Tar Dyes) are passed as fit for human consumption and don't seem to effect most of the population, but for those of us who do react they're lunatic soup.

This time was relatively mild, but when it's bad I feel as if could take on the entire world - populated entirely by idiots who are out to thwart me at every step - bare-handed.  Usually just prior to looking at the wreckage and bursting into tears.  If I realise what's happening I can usually deal with it, but if it gets hold before I notice...

What I need is to believe that what I write is good.
I can't believe my family and friends because, as I have read, they just aren't the people that should critique my writing.
I have put my writing on hold for many years simply because I don't believe that I have something to say that would interest anyone.
I don't think that this is writers block.  I believe it is "nitewriter block!"
I am being my biggest critic and now that I'm older...it hurts.

We can cry on each other's shoulders, blow our noses in each others draperies (added for that failed comic touch), except the dust will make me sneeze, unless you have perfectly dust free drapes, in which case being your friend may intimidate me, which some women like but I'm not into that power trip...Let's face it, I've had too much wine to be funny so just PM me.

That's the title of a chapter in one of my books. Sounds depressing huh? Type Through the Tears Maybe I should title the book Typing through the Tears - nah that doesn't work.

I need some suggestions on how to get through painful stories. I think all writers have those stories. So, how do you type through the tears - even the good ones?

I need some suggestions on how to get through painful stories. I think all writers have those stories. So, how do you type through the tears - even the good ones?

~Deb

I cry through them but keep writing anyway. It helps. Once I get something painful down on paper I can distance myself from it and I no longer feel as though it happened to me. I don't know if that sounds callous, but it's how I heal.

Deb, writing through painful memories, for me at least, always reopen wounds.  At first it was almost intollerable, but as I continued to do so, I found that by the end of my writing those felling flowwed out of me and onto the screen/paper.  It was theraputic.  Keeping that in mind, anytime I write now, I push through that pain.  Ocassionally having to stop and wipe my keyboard dry.

Best of luck if you continue.  I hope it works for you. 8)

Thank you Gyppo, Jos, Leah, and Mark. I deeply appreciate all of your suggestions and encouragement. In the past, I've pushed the writing through many tears and I have some powerful material so I'm trying to figure out why this has had me blocked. I think the 'wound" is still too new. Only two months old and festering. Maybe I need a tourniquet to stop the bleed first.

I will take your suggestions and keep plugging away. Thank you again. Your encouragement means more to me than you could possibly know. :-* :-* :-* :-*... :)

Deb -
Painful memories are rough, and I've found there are usually not enough words that anyone can say to make them better. Writing them down will help. So will talking to others about it.

You'll get through, and I bet your story will make others weep, too. Things like this that are shared seem to have that effect.

Hang in there. Everyone here will help if you need it, I'm sure.

Confidence.

Nordy:  Fake it until you make it.  (Quite seriously.  If you play the part of a confident person, even if you  are cringing inside, it will eventually come naturally.  Not overnight, but it will happen.)

I remember watching Dad face down a much larger troublemaker who backed off after a bit more bluster.  When I made some comment later about him being brave Dad just gave his 'urchin' grin and said, "That's the good thing about wide trousers, Son.  He couldn't see my knees knocking."

The same applies to writing and submitting work.  Neither your word processor, or any editor you send work, knows you're nervous.  So put your metaphorical wide-legged trousers and just get stuck in.

For it to be about 9:40 tomorrow morning.

I don't make a habit of wishing my life away, but I've got to go and give some blood samples tomorrow morning, after starving myself overnight, and by 9:40 it should all be over and done with.  promptly followed by a Plain Chocolate Bounty, and a bacon bap if the van's open.

The blood nurse is a cheery little soul, but I have elusive veins and it often takes several attempts.

Not exactly my favourite way to spend 15 minutes or so ;-(

I find it easier to donate a whole pint than fill those three little colour-coded test tubes.

Hmmmmm... good question.

There's not really anything I need because I have a pretty good life for the most part.  Kids and wife are generally healthy.  The heater works, theres food in the fridge  and the car is still running.

Now what I want.... now that is another story.  The answer many people have given of time sounds nice.  I would love to have a bit more time.  Both extra time and some of the time I have wasted over the years.

And if anyone has a spare million in cash, I wouldn't be adverse to helping you relocate it...  In fact, if you just got unwanted cash following you around, I would be happy to adopt it and give it a good home.   ;)

Oh, and another drink would be nice.  Hey Bartender, slide that bottle down this way please.  It's crazy cold outside and I could use a little of the warm glow that good whiskey provides.   :D

Think about the people in your life - there must be some - who have hurt or upset you with words or comments.  What did they say?  Why did it hurt so much?  What hidden nerves did it touch? There's your starting point for learning to 'think evil'.  Start with the desired reaction from your 'good' characters and then work backwards to see what could have caused it.

Think of the times you may have 'bitten your tongue' to avoid upsetting a friend/relative.  Remember what you didn't say.  Then work on making it even more nasty.  Does that make sense?

You'd be surprised how many decent and good people have a really evil imagination once they discover where it's hiding.  Don't worry too much about it boiling over into your everyday life,  if your basic nature is gentle you'll stay that way, even if your imagination develops a tongue like a whiplash soaked in vitriol ;-)

I need to get rid of this cold I got for Christmas. Nice Christmas present. >:( (Scroog was in my neighborhood that day I believe) So, I can focus on finishing flipping my house upside down
to find the cd I down loaded my start and middle of my book onto. Wish me luck I need it with a clouded mind, clogged head and fuzzy eyes of misery for almost a month. Hope noone else gets what I got. I don't wish this on my worst enemy. Haven't been able to write for a whole month misery is a mild word about how I feel about not being able to write.

A recharge. or maybe more likely a mental re-set.

My batteries have been a bit low for the last couple of weeks.  I feel as if I'm running at about 80%.  The first couple of months in each year are generally a bit of a flat time for me.  A kind of limbo after the temporary euphoria of turning the corner into the new year.  I realise some of this is probably a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it's a definite pattern.

Most of my working life, as both a Baker and a Postie Christmas and the weeks immediately prior were always rush rush rush with lots of hours at work and only adrenaline to keep me going.  Afterwards there came the inevitable slump.  I suspect my body still recalls this pattern, just as it still recalls the sleep patterns (that's a joke) of a permanent night worker.

It'll pass, it always does ;-)

The list is endless really.  Obviously we all need time, motivation, and so forth.  For myself, I need to remember where I was going with certain storylines.  I haven't picked up a thread in a particular story in so long that I am not quite sure where I was going with it.  So I also need to decide what to do with it. Do I abandon it? Or do I try to figure it out?

Try to recapture the mood you were in when you started it.  This may trigger the same thought patterns.

Otherwise put it on one side and come back to it much later.  You may never recapture the original line of thought, but reading it 'cold' some part of it, or a single character, may well trigger a whole new angle.  If this happens don't try too hard to graft anything you have already written into the new idea, this doesn't usually work out too well.  Just let the new story fly, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

Controlled selective amnesia.

It'd be great to sit in front of my computer and temporarily forget all the works I love and force myself to think of something original.  It may end up similar to things that already exist, but it should definately have my spin on it.

That'd be awesome.

(Unfortunately I already have selective amnesia, I just wish I could control it.)

ok... yes besides more time in a day to write, without interuption.  -  I am a stay home mom with 3 kids - two older but also a 4 year old.  I need an easy one step way to promote my book - one stop shop so to speak to get press release to all media, press kit out to all interested people, meaning all book buyers in the universe and yes, a never ending ice filled glass of Coke.  oh, and time to actually pop into my forums like this once in awhile...

If I had all of this, I would then be able to write my next book.  I too end up woring on more than one series at a time - one in the typing out stage and the other is completely different and in the writing and working it all out on paper stage...

and the money to apy my bills would be nice,,,

I really really really really really need to use some adverbs.  I got tired of kicking them all out of my novel.  Well I have some in there, but not many.   So hopefully and sincerely, having done all this editing, clearly I need some adverb therapy - really I do!  So apologetically I write this with some glee and maybe I can put in a few unnecessary words as well, to round it off and feel extremely better afterwards.

I need my dodgy finger to start bending again.  It's almost stopped hurting although its still a bit puffy.  But it doesn't want to bend.  It's quite funny in a sick kind of way,  I look down and see the other fingers bopping up and down on the keys and the dodgy one stubbornly refusing to join the dance.

It's caused a brief hiatus in the home breadmaking too.  I gave in and bought a loaf today.

I can do bread one-handed, I learned that years ago when I caught my hand in a commercial mixer, but it's not so much fun and definitely slower.

Gyp, this may sound a little 'off the wall' but a good natural (i hesitate to say cure) way to help with the arthritis is to eat cherries, and stay well hydrated.  You may have known this, but I thought I'd share just in case. 8)

Anyone have a cure for being unmotivated?  Wait, a cure that doesn't involve doing something I might consider painful. ;) That's what I need. 8)

I've said many times, a bag of fifties will suffice.   ::) ;)

I prefer my fifties in an attache case, neatly stacked beside the hundreds, although, the bag tends to look a little less conspicuous.

What I need is a good arse kicking for procrastinating.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have a few things I need to put off for a while. 8)

It depends on the size of the bag ;-)  I've never had more money than could be carried in my pockets, and/or a money belt.  Mind you, I do have poacher's pockets ;-)

A carpenter and a plumber to remove the kitchen counters and sink, to get ready for a new dishwasher and granite countertops!   :-\

And now I'd even settle for a bag of 20s!   :P
